The Institute of Clinical Sciences is one of six Institutes within Sahlgrenska Academy at the University of Gothenburg. We conduct research and education that puts people's health and quality of life in focus. We represent 16 different research areas and are divided into four sections. Through a fruitful collaboration with the healthcare and Sahlgrenska University Hospital, we have developed joint projects and meeting places that benefits both health care and research.

The Department of Oncology at the Sahlgrenska Academy is a leading research and clinical unit within cancer research and care. Our mission is to understand, prevent, and treat various forms of cancer through cutting-edge research and clinical innovation.

The group conducts cancer research using genome-wide analysis of ovarian tumors. To identify novel biomarkers and cancer-related genes, we integrate data from multi-omics (i.e., SNP arrays, RNA-seq, DNA methylation, expression microarrays, mass spectrometry), molecular techniques (FISH [fluorescence in situ hybridization], immunohistochemistry, cell transfection, Western blot, real-time qPCR), and clinicopathological features from cancer cell lines and patient samples derived from numerous ovarian tumor tissues. The main goal of the research is to identify biomarkers that can be used for early detection, drug development, and patient stratification in ovarian cancer patients.

Subject area description

The subject area encompasses research in cancer biology with a specific focus on integrated analysis of omics data, including RNA sequencing, spatial proteomics, digital pathology, and gene expression profiles, from various cohorts of patients with ovarian tumors. The work aims to elucidate molecular mechanisms underlying tumor development and to enhance the understanding of tumor heterogeneity and treatment response in ovarian cancer patients. The subject includes both bioinformatic analyses and experimental methods in molecular biology, as well as analysis of clinicopathological data.

Duties

The position holder will work with bioinformatic and molecular biology analyses, participate in both experimental and analytical work, and contribute to scientific output by writing articles, presenting at meetings, and supervising doctoral candidates and students.

Eligibility

To be eligible for appointment as a postdoc, the applicant is required to have a doctoral degree, a doctoral degree in art or a foreign degree that is deemed to be equivalent to a doctoral degree. This eligibility requirement must be met before the employment decision is made.

In the first instance, those who have completed their degree no more than three years prior to the end of the application period shall be considered. Those who have completed their degree more than three years prior to the end of the application period may also be considered in the first instance if special grounds exist. Special grounds relate to leave of absence due to illness, parental leave, commissions of trust within union organisations, service within the defence services or other similar circumstances, as well as clinical service or service/assignment relevant to the subject area.

Assessment criteria

Required qualifications:

A doctoral degree in biomedicine, molecular biology, bioinformatics, or a related field is required. Applicants should have documented experience in bioinformatic analyses as well as the ability to perform both bioinformatic and molecular biology laboratory work.

The candidate should have experience in conducting both experimental and analytical work and be able to contribute actively to scientific output. This includes experience in writing scientific articles, presenting research at conferences and meetings, and supervising doctoral candidates and/or students

• Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in interdisciplinary teams
• Experience in tumor immune microenvironment
• Spatial proteomics
• SNP polymorphism
• Digital pathology
• Excellent communication skills in English, both written and spoken

The employment is limited (temporary) for 24 months, 100% of full-time and is placed at the Institute of Clinical Sciences, Department of Oncology. Starting date: as soon as possible
