We are excited to offer a Master's thesis opportunity aimed at accelerating our Product Information Flow research. The selected student will take on the role of an AI Engineer, focusing on designing and prototyping intelligent systems capable of extracting, structuring, and reasoning over complex product knowledge. The work will enable the assessment of these systems in real-world engineering contexts, providing both the company and the student with invaluable insights. This project balances theoretical exploration with practical application, delivering a unique learning and innovation platform with reusable results.
Proposed Thesis Focus Areas:
AI-Assisted Technical Document Understanding:Using modern NLP techniques to extract structured engineering information from unstructured and heterogeneous sources.
Information Extraction & Semantic Normalization: Converting unstructured requirements into standardized data structures and normalizing inconsistent terminology.
Hybrid AI with Rule-Based Engineering Reasoning: Combining LLM-powered extraction techniques with deterministic engineering rules for system-component compatibility evaluation.

What you will do
- Design and implement AI pipelines for extracting knowledge from technical documents, specifications, and structured data sources.
- Develop semantic frameworks (e.g., embeddings, knowledge graphs, ontologies) to model and manage product knowledge effectively.
- Build and refine LLM-based reasoning workflows to support use-cases like analysis, validation, and recommendations.
- Leverage advanced techniques such as prompt engineering, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), and tool-augmented reasoning.
- Collaborate with domain experts to translate product-specific logic into machine-interpretable formats.
- Evaluate the performance of AI models and improve their accuracy, consistency, and traceability.
- Contribute to scalable and maintainable AI architectures that align with existing product lifecycle frameworks.
The skills you will bring
- A university degree in Computer Science/Data Science/Artificial Intelligence
- Strong foundations in AI, Machine Learning, and Natural Language Processing.
- Expertise in designing, evaluating, and optimizing prompts for LLM-based applications.
- Proven ability to transform domain-specific knowledge into machine-readable representations and solutions.
- Proficiency in fundamental software engineering practices, including version control, code reviews, and system design.
- A problem-solving mindset with the ability to operate effectively in exploration and ambiguous scenarios.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills for cross-functional teamwork and interaction with domain experts.
- Practical experience in processing unstructured or semi-structured data (e.g., technical documents, logs, specifications).
- Advanced skills in Python, with clean, maintainable, and test-driven development approaches.
- Hands-on experience integrating AI/ML capabilities into broader software platforms or system workflows.
- Familiarity with LangChain or similar LLM orchestration frameworks for developing multi-step, production-ready workflows.
- Solid understanding of retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), including the ingestion of documents, chunking, embedding model application, and vector-based search strategies.
