Building a European Presence - Denmark as the First Step in Our International Expansion StrategyAt Avanza, we've spent over 20 years building Sweden's best platform for savers. Now, we're asking ourselves: If we were to build that same trust and magic today, using the technology and AI of 2026, what would it look like?
We are taking our first big step outside of Sweden, starting with Denmark. We aren't just "copy-pasting" our Swedish success; we are building a brand-new, international platform from the ground up - leveraging on our Swedish success. Our goal is to move from being a world-class platform to being atrue financial partner for our customers-building something that doesn't just hold their money, but proactively helps them grow it.
To do this, we are creating a dedicated, cross-functional International Area. We are now looking for anEngineering Manager to join this area and help us define the next generation of Avanza.
The Mission: Building a Platform for "European Expansion"
In this role, you will build and support a cross-functional team in an environment defined by agility and a startup mindset. Your mission is to help define Avanza's international future, fostering an AI-first foundation and navigating a modern tech stack in GCP to create a scalable, greenfield platform.
You will empower your team to move past traditional boundaries, using 2026 technology to build a financial co-pilot that makes saving feel intuitive and helpful. By combining your technical insight with a people-first leadership style, you will guide the development of a product our customers truly love.
We want to move past traditional banking interfaces to create a proactive, personal financial co-pilot that helps customers make better decisions every day. Denmark is our first destination, but you will be building the modular blueprint for everything that follows.
You will be based in Stockholm and report to the Engineering Area Lead.
Your focus will be to
Build and Nurture a High-Performing Team: You will recruit and support one of two new cross-functional teams (focusing on either cloud-based Backend/Integrations or UX/Customer Experience), establishing a positive engineering culture built on trust, continuous learning, and autonomy.
Guide Technical Innovation: You will act as a partner to your team, helping them navigate an AI-first landscape and modern architectural standards to build scalable, high-quality solutions.
Empower Personal and Professional Growth: Through helpful feedback, coaching, and thoughtful career planning, you will ensure your team members are engaged and empowered to reach their full potential.
Balance Speed with Quality, Risk and Security: You will help the team navigate trade-offs between rapid delivery in a startup-like environment and our responsibility to maintain a stable and compliant platform.
Enable Collaboration and Delivery: Working closely with Product Managers and stakeholders, you will remove obstacles and refine our ways of working to ensure we deliver a product customers can't help falling in love with.
Who you are
Proven Leadership: You have a track record of leading engineering teams or complex projects, with a focus on empowering people and driving technical excellence.
Thrive in Velocity: You are at home in high-growth environments or startups where speed and adaptability are key.
Technical Depth: You possess a strong foundation in software development-and have a practical, hands-on understanding of building with AI.
Security & Data First: You champion a data-driven mindset and view secure development as a fundamental part of the craft, not an afterthought.
Regulated Contexts: Experience navigating complex industries like FinTech or banking is a significant advantage, as is a background in managing third-party integrations.
Global Mindset: We are expanding. While international experience isn't a dealbreaker, the ambition to scale across borders is a definite asset.
Communication: Fluency in English is essential for our global collaboration. Swedish is a welcome addition but not a barrier to entry.
