Om jobbet

The University of Gothenburg tackles society's challenges with diverse knowledge. 58 000 students and 6800 employees make the university a large and inspiring place to work and study. Strong research and attractive study programmes attract researchers and students from around the world. With new knowledge and new perspectives, the University contributes to a better future.

At the Institute of Neuroscience and Physiology, at the Sahlgrenska Academy, we conduct research and education covering a wide range of knowledge areas. The institute comprises five different departments: Clinical Neuroscience, Health and Rehabilitation, Pharmacology, Physiology and Psychiatry and Neurochemistry.

The Institute of Neuroscience and Physiology, invites applications for an Associate researcher employment as a substitute at the Department of Psychiatry and Neurochemistry.

The Neurochemistry laboratory at the department conducts neurochemical research targeted to understand the pathophysiology of Alzheimer's disease and other brain disorders. An important goal is to identify protein changes linked to the pathophysiology, known as biomarkers, which can be valuable to explore disease mechanisms, for diagnosis and to monitor treatment effects.

Duties

The Associate researcher will contribute to ongoing work aimed at identifying and characterising novel biochemical protein markers relevant to Alzheimer's disease and other neurological conditions, including Parkinson's disease and traumatic brain injury.

The role involves validating and evaluating new analytical methods, as well as performing clinical neurochemical studies using these techniques. The work includes the analysis of protein biomarkers in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) and blood using immunoassay-based platforms such as Cobas, MSD, Simoa, and NULISA.

In addition to laboratory responsibilities, the position includes administrative tasks associated with research projects, such as preparing data reports, managing reagent and sample inventories, monitoring equipment maintenance, and assisting with the purchasing of reagents and supplies.

Qualifications

The applicant should have an educational background relevant to the position, such as a Bachelor's degree in Biology or a related field, or equivalent training as a laboratory technician. A Master's or PhD degree in a relevant subject is considered a merit. Research experience in Alzheimer's disease, acute brain injuries, or protein biomarkers related to these conditions will be viewed favourably.

Proven knowledge and hands-on experience with quantitative protein immunoassays is required, as is the ability to manage datasets and prepare clear, structured data reports.

Considerable emphasis will be placed on personal suitability for the role, including strong organisational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced research environment. Fluency in English is required.

Employment

The employment is limited (temporary) as a substitue for as longest 18 months or until the position holder returns to duty, 100% of full-time, and is placed at the Institute of Neuroscience and Physiology. Starting date: as soon as possible or as agreed.
