Would you like to contribute to improving the quality of life of men with prostate cancer undergoing hormone therapy? We are seeking an assistant researcher for a pilot study of a combined intervention involving medical yoga and group discussions.

The Department of Health and Care Sciences conducts education and research with a focus on care, health, and people's living conditions. We educate nurses, radiographers, specialist nurses and midwives with the aim of meeting society's need for competent and committed healthcare professionals. Research at the department spans a wide range of fields, but shares a common foundation in person-centred and evidence-based care. We are nationally and internationally leading in person-centred care and this perspective permeates our education, research and collaboration with healthcare services.

The department is part of the Sahlgrenska Academy at the University of Gothenburg and is located at the Medicinareberget campus, in close proximity to Sahlgrenska University Hospital. The department has approximately 1,200 students enrolled in regulated healthcare professions at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

Duties

As an assistant researcher, you will participate in the evaluation of an intervention consisting of medical yoga (Medical Yoga Standardised Intervention, MOSI) in combination with group discussions aimed at men receiving hormone therapy for prostate cancer.

The project will examine the feasibility, acceptability and potential effects of the intervention as a first step towards developing more sustainable rehabilitation support for men with prostate cancer.

Data collection will include questionnaires on symptom experiences, measurement of salivary cortisol and interviews. Outcomes will be evaluated prospectively at several short- and long-term follow-up points. The interviews will, among other things, explore the question: "In what ways has the cancer rehabilitation programme supported you in managing your symptoms?"

The study will be conducted at the Regional Centre for Cancer Rehabilitation at Sahlgrenska University Hospital in Gothenburg in collaboration with the University of Gothenburg and the Swedish Institute for Medical Yoga.

Qualifications

We are seeking candidates who hold a doctoral degree in medical science and have completed instructor training in medical yoga. Experience of leading medical yoga for people with cancer is considered an asset.

As an assistant researcher, you are expected to have good knowledge of laboratory-based analytical methods including sample handling, biochemical analyses and a basic understanding of analytical principles and quality control.

The role requires fluency in Swedish, both spoken and written as well as good proficiency in English, both spoken and written.

To thrive and succeed in this role, you should be thorough and well organised, have strong collaborative skills and demonstrate an empathetic and communicative approach. You should be able to build trust and engagement when working with study participants and collaborate smoothly with colleagues and external partners.

As the role involves daily interaction with people in various contexts, personal suitability is particularly important. We therefore make an overall assessment of qualifications, experience and personal qualities to identify a candidate who is motivated to contribute to the successful implementation of the pilot study and to laying the foundation for future research in integrative cancer rehabilitation.

Employment

The position is a fixed-term appointment of up to 12 months at 50 per cent of full-time employment, based at the Department of Health and Care Sciences. Start date by agreement.
