You will be a very active member of a dynamic and highly skilled team, with high ambitions and with clear goals. You will enrich the already existing constellations of different projects ranging from EURATOM projects to Swedish  financed VR, SSF, STEM and SSM projects. You will be a significant addition to a team working with new, highly actual developments in nuclear field as well as other applications connected to high temperature and metal oxide chemistry. Information about the division The field of research for the division Energy and Materials is broad. We have diverse research activity, focusing on different aspects of material and energy related questions. We contribute to a sustainable society by developing improvements for materials and energy systems applicable in many areas.  The division includes Inorganic Environmental Chemistry, working with applications of high temperature corrosion with research applied to fuel cells, biomass and waste fired boilers. The division also performs research in the field of Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS), Oxide Chemistry and Theoretical Chemistry involving advanced modeling as well as Nuclear Chemistry and Industrial Materials Recycling group. The Nuclear Chemistry and Industrial Materials Recycling (NC/IMR) research group, led by Prof. Teodora Retegan Vollmer, is an established group at Chalmers University of technology in Gothenburg, Sweden and is part of Energy & Materials Division, led by Prof. Christian Ekberg. The group comprises currently of 8 senior scientists and 11 PhD students and postdoctoral students. There are two Professors in Nuclear Chemistry and two in Industrial Materials Recycling. The research group is highly international and has a wide international network and the staff currently represents 9 different nationalities. The combustion group, at the same division is a group of 5 led by Associate Professor Henrik Leion. Information about the research The research in NC/IMR is specialized in aqueous chemistry and solvent extraction as well as high temperature chemistry being used for recycling of materials, nuclear applications as well as inorganics in combustion, such as ash and metal oxide bed material. In the field of nuclear chemistry, there are four major research areas: 1) novel nuclear fuels for the generation IV nuclear power systems as well as accident tolerant fuels for Gen II-III light water reactors, 2) radionuclide release from severe nuclear accidents, 3) partitioning and transmutation of spent nuclear fuel, and 4) final repository of radioactive waste. The nuclear chemistry research facilities are unique for an university in Europe, with a dedicated alpha laboratory for nuclear fuel manufacturing, a gamma lab with "hot cell" and irradiation source, several radiochemistry laboratories for trace-level work as well as several laboratories equipped with high temperature state of the art facilities as well as a supercritical CO2 station. The combustion reasech focus on CO2 capture with Chemical Looping Combustion and other fuel conversion concepts with metal oxide base bed material. Together there are a lot of joint high temperature equipment and several characterization laboratories which are also used commonly. Major responsibilities The role of the researcher will be (1) to ensure that working knowledge of the group is preserved across generations of PhD students, (2) to co-supervise PhD students, (3) to support collaborations with industry and academic partners, (4) to assist with outreach activities, and (5) to operate and maintain critical nuclear chemistry and high temperature facilities and characterization equipment as well as characterization labs. You are expected to develop your own scientific concepts and communicate the results of your research verbally and in writing. Another important aspect involves collaboration within academia and with society at large. The position is meritorious for future research duties within academia as well as industry/the public sector. Specialist positions at Chalmers with a focus on research and utility comprise three levels: research professor, senior researcher and researcher. The aim of the positions is to prepare a career path for individuals who are active researchers and specialists within a specific and delimited research field. The specialist positions are normally attached to a research team, which thus enables quality assurance and collaboration with the departments’ and the faculties’ base-funded activities. Position summary Full-time permanent employment. Qualifications • PhD In Nuclear Chemistry • proven research experience • proven hands-on experience in nuclear field • proven hands-on experience in high temperature chemistry, specifically for metal oxide systems • language proficiency (English) • proven teaching and supervising experience Chalmers continuously strives to be an attractive employer. Equality and diversity are substantial foundations in all activities at Chalmers. Application procedure For more information and to apply, please visit this webpage Application deadline: 30 November, 2020 For questions, please contact: Teodora Retegan Vollmer, tretegan@chalmers.se Christian Ekberg, che@chalmers.se *** Chalmers declines to consider all offers of further announcement publishing or other types of support for the recruiting process in connection with this position. ***
