The Department of Physics at Chalmers University of Technology invites applications for a full-time postdoctoral research associate position on theoretical and computational nanophotonics in the group of Prof. Philippe Tassin. You will study theoretical aspects of nanophotonic devices with theoretical and computational tools and develop designs for metasurfaces and nanophotonic membranes in close collaboration with experimental groups in the photonics and quantum optomechanics labs at Chalmers. Information about the the division You will be embedded in the condensed matter and materials theory division, a vibrant research group tackling questions ranging from nanomechanics to optics and quantum physics. Chalmers University of Technology is a leading research institution in nanoscience and hosts one of Europe's largest and most well-equipped clean rooms dedicated to nanofabrication, as well as state-of-the-art high-performance computing equipment. Major responsibilities The successful candidate will study nanophotonic structures, such as metasurfaces and photonic crystal membranes. For example, you will design nanophotonic structures with bound states in the continuum, which provide access to an extraordinarily strong light-matter interaction at the nanoscale, and study their applications in engineered nanocavities with large and controllable quality factor, e.g., for use in large-area lasers and in quantum optomechanical resonators. Computer simulations will be an important part of the work. A postdoctoral position is a time-limited research position and an opportunity to qualify for further research positions within academia or industry. The majority of your working time should be devoted to your own research and competence development, but you may also be involved in supervision of Ph.D. and M.Sc. students. Position summary The postdoctoral position is a full-time temporary employment position limited to a maximum of two years (1+1), with a checkpoint after 1 year. We offer a competitive salary, excellent working conditions, and access to world-class facilities and infrastructure. The starting date is as soon as possible, but is negotiable. Qualifications The applicant should have, or expect to soon obtain, a Ph.D. degree in physics, optics, nanoscience, electrical engineering, or a related subject area; the degree should generally not be older than three years. The applicant should have solid experience in computational electromagnetism. Previous experience from the nanophotonics/metamaterials field is advantageous. You will be expected to take initiative, work independently when needed, demonstrate creativity, and take responsibility for your work. You will also need to be able to disseminate results and knowledge within the scientific community and to a broader public. To that end, the applicant should have good command of both spoken and written English. Proficiency in Swedish is not a requirement, but Chalmers offers Swedish courses. Chalmers continuously strives to be an attractive employer. Equality and diversity are substantial foundations in all activities at Chalmers. Our offer to you Chalmers offers a cultivating and inspiring working environment in the dynamic city of Gothenburg.  Read more about working at Chalmers and our benefits for employees. APPLICATION PROCEDURE Application deadline: 31 January 2021 For questions, please contact: Philippe Tassin, https://www.chalmers.se/en/Staff/Pages/Philippe-Tassin.aspx *** Chalmers declines to consider all offers of further announcement publishing or other types of support for the recruiting process in connection with this position. ***
