Superconducting qubits can be considered as artificial atoms and atom physics can be studied with these circuits in regimes that are not accessible to natural atoms. In particular, they can be coupled to acoustic modes by placing them on piezoelectric materials. The coupling to the acoustic modes can be made both very strong and frequency dependent. In this project we study how these properties affect the Lamb shift of these artificial atoms. We are looking for a motivated post-doc who is interested in understanding this fundamental problem. Information about the the project and the division  The Wallenberg Centre for Quantum Technology (WACQT) is a 12-year, SEK 1 billion research program that started in 2018 and aims to take Swedish research and industry to the forefront of quantum technology. Our main project is to develop a high-end quantum computer based on superconducting qubits. WACQT is directed and coordinated from Chalmers University of Technology, however several Swedish universities are involved. The research areas quantum sensing and quantum communication are coordinated from Lund University and KTH Royal Institute of Technology, respectively. WACQT also has several industrial partner companies, see Industrial collaboration. The centre has also started the gender-balance initiative Women in WACQT (WWACQT) that aims at raising awareness on discrimination, and at supporting the career of women and gender non-conforming scientists in the WACQT community.  Major responsibilities Your major responsibility as a postdoc is to perform microwave measurements at very low temperatures on artificial atoms made from superconducting circuits. You would be part of a big group that has an advanced technological platform, both in terms of nanofabrication and measurement technology. You would be able to study atomic physics in a regime that is inaccessible for ordinary atomic physics. You will fabricate SAW-coupled qubits and do advanced microwave measurements on them. Qualifications To qualify for the position of postdoc, you must have a PhD in physics. Experience with atomic physics, superconducting circuits or microwave measurements is highly desirable. The position requires sound verbal and written communication skills in English. Swedish is not a requirement, but Chalmers offers Swedish courses. Contract terms This postdoc position is a full-time temporary employment for two years. We offer Chalmers offers a cultivating and inspiring working environment in the coastal city of Gothenburg.  Read more about working at Chalmers and our benefits for employees. Chalmers aims to actively improve our gender balance. We work broadly with equality projects, for example the GENIE Initiative on gender equality for excellence. Equality and diversity are substantial foundations in all activities at Chalmers. Application procedure The application should be marked with Ref 20220145 and written in English. The application should be sent electronically and be attached as pdf-files, as below: CV: (Please name the document as: CV, Surname, Ref. number) including: • CV, include complete list of publications • Previous teaching and pedagogical experiences • Two references that we can contact. Personal letter: (Please name the document as: Personal letter, Family name, Ref. number) 1-3 pages where you: • Introduce yourself • Describe your previous research fields and main research results • Describe your future goals and future research focus Other documents: • Attested copies of completed education, grades and other certificates. Learn more and apply here: https://www.chalmers.se/en/about-chalmers/Working-at-Chalmers/Vacancies/Pages/default.aspx?rmpage=job&rmjob=10367&rmlang=UK Application deadline: 2022-08-31 We will start interviewing candidates during the application period. *** Chalmers declines to consider all offers of further announcement publishing or other types of support for the recruiting process in connection with this position. ***      Chalmers University of Technology conducts research and education in engineering sciences, architecture, technology-related mathematical sciences, natural and nautical sciences, working in close collaboration with industry and society.
