The Division of Microstructure Physics at the Department of Physics is looking for a post-doc experienced in synchrotron X-ray diffraction. You will have the opportunity to work on both industrially focused and curiosity driven projects, where you can contribute to resolving materials related questions important for a sustainable future. In particular, we seek a candidate with experience of in situ synchrotron diffraction of metallic/ceramic materials, with a focus on stress and phase analysis. Information about the research The research at the Division of Microstructure Physics is focused on understanding the links between the process, structure, properties and performance of engineering materials. For this purpose we employ electron microscopy, atom probe tomography and various scattering/diffraction techniques. Diffraction experiments using neutron or synchrotron radiation, particularly during in situ conditions, are becoming increasingly important tools and we a now looking for a post-doctoral researcher with suitable experience to strengthen our activities in this area. Major responsibilities You will mainly work on projects related to time-resolved diffraction experiments at high temperatures in order to investigate the thermal stability, residual/internal stress evolution and thermal expansion of hard coatings and ceramic materials. The main technique will be high energy X-ray diffraction, but also time-of-flight neutron diffraction experiments are planned within the projects. You will take the main responsibility for planning and performing experiments at large scale facilities, analysing the resulting data, reporting to collaborative partners and for taking the lead on publishing and disseminating the work. We also think that your skills and personality will allow you to support other activities where your involvement would be suitable. If your profile and interests align, you will also have the opportunity to co-supervise PhD students. Qualifications To qualify for the position of postdoc, you must have a doctoral degree in Materials Science, Physics or similar. The degree should generally not be older than three years. Previous experience of performing diffraction experiments at synchrotrons and of treating and analysing the resulting data is required. Programing skills (especially Python, but also Matlab), experience of stress analysis using diffraction data and experience of neutron diffraction and (neutron or X-ray) total scattering experiments and/or data analysis is desirable. Very good communication and collaborative skills are required, including excellent oral and written reporting in English. Swedish is not a requirement, but Chalmers offers Swedish courses. Contract terms This postdoc position is a full-time temporary employment for two or three years. We offer Chalmers offers a cultivating and inspiring working environment in the coastal city of Gothenburg.  Read more about working at Chalmers and our benefits for employees. The application should be sent electronically and be attached as pdf-files, as below: CV: (Please name the document as: CV, Surname, Ref. number) including: • CV, include complete list of publications • Previous teaching and pedagogical experiences • Two references that we can contact. Personal letter: (Please name the document as: Personal letter, Family name, Ref. number) 1-3 pages where you: • Introduce yourself • Describe your previous research fields and main research results • Describe your future goals and future research focus Other documents: • Attested copies of completed education, grades and other certificates. Please use the button at the foot of the page to reach the application form. The files may be compressed (zipped).
