We are looking for a Master’s Thesis Worker for our Research & Development department in Avesta, Sweden. In this role, you will run a research project on Time-Temperature-Precipitation (TTP) diagrams for understanding the changing behavior of alloys at elevated temperatures. The role is based in Outokumpu R&D and will run over approximately 6 months, from early to mid-2021.
The aim of this Master Thesis is to construct a TTP diagram for a newly developed austenitic heat resistant stainless steel and to compare its precipitation behavior with existing austenitic heat resistant stainless steel types.
Project description:
Among other tasks, this project will include:
- Brief literature review of intermetallic phases and TTP diagrams
- ThermalCalc calculations to predict precipitations
- Isothermal heat treatments
- Precipitation identification and quantitative measurements
- Construction of a TTP diagram
- Comparison of TTP diagram predictions using ThermalCalc/Dictra software
- Master thesis report
Qualifications needed:
- Candidate is expected to be in his/her final year of Master study preferably in the fields of Materials Science/Engineering, Chemical Engineering or equivalent
- Fluent in English, both oral and written text. Master thesis report should be written in English
- Candidate is expected to have a general interest in research and specifically in stainless steel
- Driven individual with the ability to work independently with a focus on problem-solving
- Strong attention to safety
This role is based in Avesta, Sweden and you will be supervised by Rui Wu, Research Engineer Specialist. There is also designated accommodation for our thesis worker, available from beginning to end of the project.
