Thesis Project: Develop system for automatically calculated docking precision

We are now looking for bachelor or master students within mechanical or software engineering that are interested in doing their thesis project at our Residential Robotic Product Lab department at Husqvarna Group!

We're looking for innovative students to help us develop a system that automatically calculates docking precision (angle and offset) for robotic lawnmowers when connecting to a charging station. The solution will be based on camera data and compare results across different models against mechanical requirement specifications.

The objective:

• Identify suitable camera technology for recording dockings.
• Implement an algorithm for automatic angle and offset calculation.
• Integrate the solution with existing test code.
• Perform dockings at each installation and analyze the spread.
• Compare the results between different models and mechanical requirement specifications.
• Document the method, results and improvement potential.

The thesis will include work such as:

Pre-study:

• Investigate camera models
• Evaluate software tools.

Prototype:

• Build a test setup with selected camera and reference line.
• Develop algorithm for angle calculation

Integration:

• Couple the algorithm for Automated recording and logging.
• Analyze dispersion and compare with mechanical measurement.

Reporting:

• Document implementation, results and recommendations.

Proper area of education

Bachelor or Master in Mechanical Engineering, Software Engineering or another relevant field.
