Experienced Software Test Leader at ABB Robotics, we work in a globally distributed R&D organization, and in our Västerås R&D center, all core engineering fields are represented, from software to electronics and mechanical development. Here, we are developing the next generation of industrial and collaborative robots in close cooperation with our global customers. We are facing an expansive period and need to strengthen our SW team with competence in Product Safety. We are looking for an experienced safety test engineer. We are co-located and are limiting our search to consultants that can join our team in Västerås on a daily basis.

In this role you'll be part of our SW team focusing on functional safety.

As a Software Test Leader specializing in functional

safety, you will be responsible for ensuring the reliability and safety of soft-ware systems through rigorous testing processes. Your expertise in functional safety will be crucial in identifying potential risks and ensuring compliance with industry standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Test Planning and Strategy:. Together with our test lead develop comprehensive test plans and strategies tailored to func-tional safety requirements. Collaborate with development teams to understand software specifications and design effec-tive test cases. Work with cross-functional teams (hardware, systems, QA) to integrate and test safety fea-tures.

• Test Execution: Perform manual and automated testing to identify defects and ensure software quality. Conduct regression testing to verify that existing functionalities remain unaffected by new changes. Document test results and report identified bugs

• Risk Analysis: Analyze potential risks associated with software functionalities and propose mitigation strat-egies. Ensure that all safety-critical aspects of the software are thoroughly tested and validated.

• Compliance and Standards: Ensure that testing processes adhere to relevant functional safety standards (e.g., ISO 10218). Document test results and provide detailed reports to stakeholders.

• Collaboration and Communication: Work closely with developers, test lead, and other stakeholders to ensure seamless integration of testing processes. Provide clear and concise communication regarding test findings and recommendations.

• Continuous Improvement: Stay updated with the latest trends and advancements in software testing and functional safety. Continuously improve testing methodologies and tools to enhance efficiency and effective-ness.

Requirements

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, or related field.

• 3+ years of experience in embedded software development, with at least 1 years focused on safety-critical systems.

• Strong skills in C++ for real-time and embedded applications.

• Solid knowledge of functional safety principles and implementation in industrial robotics.

• Hands-on experience with safety standards such as: ISO 13849, IEC 61508, ISO 10218, or the Machinery Directive.

• Experience with safety development tools and processes (e.g., static code analysis, unit test-ing frameworks, traceability tools).

• Excellent problem-solving, documentation, and communication skills
