Om jobbet

The University of Gothenburg tackles society's challenges with diverse knowledge. 58 000 students and 6800 employees make the university a large and inspiring place to work and study. Strong research and attractive study programmes attract researchers and students from around the world. With new knowledge and new perspectives, the University contributes to a better future.

The Department of Chemistry and Molecular Biology conducts high-quality research and education in chemical sciences and molecular life sciences. Our research and education focuses on a deep understanding of chemical and biological processes in cells and in the environment. We are responsible for postgraduate education in the subject area Natural Sciences with a focus on chemistry, biophysics, biology and educational science. In addition, the department hosts educational programmes in molecular biology, bioinformatics, chemistry, organic chemistry and medicinal chemistry, as well as Bachelor's Programme in Pharmacy/Dispensing Pharmacists. The department is an international environment with interdisciplinary collaborations in both research and education and contributes strongly to the University of Gothenburg's top ranking in life science. We are located in central premises at Natrium, Medicinareberget, Gothenburg.

The Biomedical Photonics Research Group focuses an the application af advanced laser-scanning optical microscopy and nanophotonics for biomedical purposes. A particular emphasis is placed an the development of multiphoton microscopy techniques for applications in experimental skin research, cancer therapy, and diagnostics. Our research is characterized as application-driven basic research - that is, while addressing fundamental molecular-level questions, the ultimate goal is ta develop navel therapeutic and pharmaceutical applications in a reverse-translational manner. The group hasa strong interdisciplinary profile and collaborates closely with research teams across different scientific disciplines, both within academia and beyond. For more information about responsible principle investigator (PI), www.gu.se/en/about/find-staff/maricaericson

Duties

The appointed researcher will play an active and central role in driving and further developing the research group's experimental laser scanning microscopy activities, with a focus an multiphoton microscopy combined with fluorescence lifetime imaging (MPM-FLIM). The work primarily involves experimental research using advanced optical and laser-based instrumentation, sample preparation, data analysis, documentation, and the writing af reports and scientific articles.

The development work aims ta deepen and advance the group's research within MPM-FLIM for applications ta biological samples based an autofluorescence. Particular emphasis will be placed an programming and the development of data analysis methods. The objective is ta integrate Al-based analytical approaches as a central component af the group's methodological development, in order ta enhance image analysis, spectral unmixing, and pattern recognition in complex biological data.

The researcher is also expected to take an active role in compiling and publishing research results, as well as contributing to the supervision of master's students and doctoral candidates.
