Joining St1, you’ll be part of running and developing a profitable business that invests in long-term energy solutions. Together we achieve the extraordinary through everyday work. As a Manager, Data & Analytics, you’ll play a key role in to drive the operational execution of our data strategy. You will take ownership of the D&A function, transforming high-level business goals into a robust, high-performance reality. Working in close partnership with business stakeholders, you will bridge the gap between technical potential and business outcomes, maximizing the value from our data and technology platforms.

You will lead and grow a specialized team, instilling a culture of ownership, and professionalize our data delivery through data product principles. You will ensure our technology stack and data architecture are engineered to solve today’s business problems and tomorrow’s AI challenges by being secure, scalable, and AI-ready.

Your daily impact

  • Strategy Operationalization: Translate the D&A strategy into a clear, executable roadmap. You will own the delivery of these initiatives, ensuring technical execution aligns strictly with business goals.

  • Stakeholder Partnership: Serve as the bridge between technical execution and business leadership. You will navigate a flat hierarchy to influence stakeholders and ensure data initiatives are solving real business problems.

  • Team Leadership & Culture: Lead and develop both our internal data team and the external specialists from our key vendor partners. Grow the currently small internal team by identifying, planning, and recruiting the competencies needed in‑house, while leveraging our vendors to complement those capabilities externally. Build the team’s strength through coaching and continuous development, and foster a culture of ownership, accountability, and high performance across both internal and partner teams.

  • Data Architecture & Governance: Champion architectural consistency and data integrity. You will collaborate with our Enterprise and Data Architects to uphold and refine standards that ensure our data remains trusted, interoperable, and secure across the organization.

  • Data Product Management: Champion a ‘Data‑as‑a‑Product’ mindset by providing leadership and continuous improvement to our existing data product development pipeline. Working closely with our data product owners, you will refine and evolve how we deliver data products to maximize business value—ensuring they solve real problems, drive adoption, and deliver measurable impact across the organization. In addition to leading the product teams, you will guide the wider organization away from ad‑hoc reporting toward standardized, productized, value‑driven and AI-ready data solutions.

  • Platform & AI Readiness: Guide the evolution of our platform (Databricks) to support future needs. You will ensure the infrastructure is robust and scalable enough to support advanced Machine Learning and AI use cases, leveraging the team's deep technical expertise to make the right trade-offs.

What you bring to the team

We’re looking for a colleague with the drive to challenge, collaborate and grow. To thrive in this role, you likely have:

  • Leadership Experience: Strong experience (7+ years preferred) in Data & Analytics, with a proven track record of leading teams and implementing strategy. You lead with people and purpose, while staying hands-on enough with the technology to guide impactful delivery.

  • Strategic Growth Mindset: You are driven by impact and results. You thrive in a flat hierarchy where you have the authority to make decisions and the responsibility to deliver.

  • Modern Data Stack Context: Experience leading teams within a modern cloud ecosystem (e.g., Databricks, Fabric or Snowflake). You do not need to be the lead engineer, but you must possess a good conceptual grasp of Lakehouse architecture to evaluate technical trade-offs, manage platform costs, and align the team’s work with business value.

  • Technical Authority: Solid understanding of core data engineering concepts (e.g., ETL/ELT pipelines, data modeling, SQL proficiency). You possess the technical depth to validate team output and ensure engineering standards are met, without needing to write the code yourself.

  • Methodology: Experience working with Data Mesh principles (federated governance, domain-oriented ownership) or a strong background in Data Product management.

  • Communication: Ability to communicate complex data strategies to non-technical stakeholders. Professional fluency in English is mandatory; Finnish, Swedish or Norwegian language skills are considered an asset for local stakeholder management.

The persona that would spark in the role

  • Proactive Ownership: You view yourself as the owner of the data function’s success. You are proactive in identifying bottlenecks and do not wait for permission to fix them.

  • Impact-Driven: You are motivated by the business value your team delivers, not just technical output. You challenge the status quo to ensure we are building the right things.

  • Resilience & Drive: You thrive in an environment that requires grit. You are looking for the professional challenge of building a function from the ground up, rather than managing an established legacy system.

About the team

At St1, we are strengthening how we create value with data—so insights are easier to find, easier to trust, and easier to use across the business as we scale new value chains. We have built a modern data platform foundation, and our focus is now on accelerating adoption and real use through a more domain-driven approach. Data is owned by each domain and provided for use as data products that make data reusable and ready for decision-making and digital services.

Data Product Teams help domains succeed by delivering data products across multiple domains and enabling domain specialists to work effectively on top of the platform. Our technology stack is based on a modern lakehouse approach build on top of Databricks with broad consumption via Power BI and APIs. In parallel, we are strengthening governance and change management—clarifying roles and responsibilities, improving documentation and tooling, and driving role-based onboarding and training—so data products remain usable, safe, and scalable as our business and AI needs grow.
