About this opportunity:

Are you ready to work on codesign of communication, control, and computation for mobile autonomous robots within a leading industrial research group? This Master's thesis opportunity is offered by the Cyber-Physical Systems research area at Ericsson Research, in the Decision & Control team. The project tackles key challenges in building scalable solutions for mobile autonomous robots with particular focus on the codesign of communication, control, and computation for robotic applications. This is an applied research opportunity at the intersection of devices, cloud, and networks where you can demonstrate your ideas, energy, and skills to shape future connected devices and machines.

What you will do:

• Research and design codesign strategies that integrate communication, control, and computation for robot applications.

• Develop and implement models and algorithms for real-time decision-making and optimization in distributed robotic systems.

• Integrate perception, planning, and control modules with mobile networks and edge/cloud compute resources.

• Design and run experiments and performance evaluations in mobile network environments to assess scalability, latency, reliability, and energy implications.

• Compare your solution against existing approaches to evaluate effectiveness and trade-offs.

The skills you bring:

• MSc studies in Computer Science, Systems Engineering, Electronics, Robotics, Telecommunications, Control engineering or a related field.

• Experience with perception, planning, and control for autonomous robots.

• Solid knowledge and practical experience with ML/AI methods and their application in robotics and distributed systems.

• Strong programming skills in Python and/or C/C++.

• Experience with mobile networks and real-time networked applications.

• Ability to formulate research problems and solve them independently as well as collaboratively.

• Strong analytical skills, quick learning ability, and the willingness to share knowledge with others.

• Excellent written and spoken English and good presentation skills.
