The Role:

As Energy Director at Boliden, you have overarching responsibility for the Group's energy matters and for how the energy work is planned, managed, and developed - both in the short and long term. You are a key person in the dialogue between energy suppliers and our operations, ensuring that Boliden maintains a competitive position in our agreements and collaborations.
In the role, you are responsible for identifying, structuring, and realizing business opportunities within the energy area. You work actively to strengthen and position Boliden's energy agenda in the EU and within relevant industry organizations. You drive the strategic energy work while maintaining a close connection to our sites and an operational understanding of the business needs.

You lead and develop your team, consisting of two employees, toward shared goals and results. The role requires that you can independently balance technical solutions against commercial, financial, and risk-related perspectives. The assignment includes clear responsibility for the work environment within the function, as well as responsibility for adherence to plans related to budget and investments.

The Team:

As Energy Director, you are part of the management team within the Group function Strategy and Technology, together with the Director of Strategy and Business Development and Boliden's Chief Procurement Officer (CPO). You report directly to our EVP Strategy and Chief Technology Officer . You lead an engaged and competent team with strong cohesion and solid expertise within the energy field.

Main responsibilities:

Strategy & Governance

The Energy Director is responsible for developing and driving the group's energy and electrification strategy, covering electricity, heat, fuels, and hydrogen where relevant. This includes ensuring the energy portfolio's integrity and risk management, as well as developing control models and KPIs related to energy costs per ton, availability, CO₂ intensity, flexibility, and peak loads.

Energy Procurement & Commercial Agreements

The role involves leading procurement and negotiation of electricity (PPA), grid capacity, balance responsibility, guarantees of origin, fuel contracts, and steam/heat agreements. Managing supplier strategy and contract follow-up, including service level agreements and pricing mechanisms, is also essential. Collaboration with energy companies, grid owners, authorities, and industrial clusters is required.

Capacity, Infrastructure, and Flexibility

The Energy Director leads efforts on power needs, grid connections, capacity increases, redundancy, and resilience. Supporting business units in evaluating flexibility solutions such as load management, batteries, and backup power is key, along with leading relevant contract negotiations.

Energy Transition & Decarbonization

Identifying and leading business cases for electrification, fuel switching, hydrogen solutions, biofuels, CCS/CCU, and solar energy where applicable falls under this role. Supporting ESG reporting and climate targets, including scopes 1, 2, and sometimes 3 related to energy, is also part of the responsibilities.

Leadership & Collaboration

The Energy Director leads a cross-functional team comprising energy procurement, energy specialists, and project managers, while collaborating closely with business areas and units. Presenting energy status and strategic decisions to the group management and board is required.

Public Affairs

The role includes responsibility for the company's public affairs concerning energy policy, with a focus on EU regulations affecting the mining and metal industry's energy costs, permits, competitiveness, and transition. Monitoring and analyzing upcoming EU initiatives and their business implications and translating these into strategy and decision support for management and the board, is vital. Representing the company in dialogue with industry organizations and EU institutions and driving the company's stance on issues like electricity market design, grid capacity, permits, support programs, and climate instruments (ETS/CBAM) is also included. Leading or contributing to consultation responses and industry position papers is part of this responsibility.

Requirements - Education and Experience:

• Relevant academic degree in energy systems, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, industrial economics, or equivalent.

• Minimum of 10 years' experience in energy-intensive industries such as mining/metals, steel, chemical, pulp/paper, cement, or process industries.

• Documented experience in energy procurement and complex contracts (e.g., PPA, electricity trading, grid issues).

• Experience in energy/cost optimization and portfolio/risk management (price hedging, volume risk, price zones).

• Proven ability to lead major investment initiatives/CAPEX with clear business cases.

• Leadership experience, either formal personnel responsibility or clear cross-functional leadership.

Desirable Qualifications:

• Experience with electricity markets, grid regulations, emissions trading/ETS, energy taxes, and permits related to energy infrastructure.

• Experience managing renewable portfolios including guarantees of origin, PPA structures, and own production such as wind/solar and batteries.

• International experience and working in matrix organizations.

• Familiarity with investor relations and external reporting in listed companies involving sensitive information, forecasts, and transparency.

Personal Characteristics:

• Business-minded and analytical, capable of translating technical choices into financial decisions (NPV, IRR, risk).

• Strong negotiation skills and integrity, comfortable with complex counterparties.

• Strategic vision combined with operational drive, able to set direction and deliver at site level.

• Structured and process-oriented, working with structure, KPIs, and follow-up.

• Communicative, able to present energy scenarios and recommendations to various audiences including management, board, politicians, and the public.

• Internal change leader, building engagement within operations and production
