The Digital Services Unit leads DeLaval's transition to offer cloud-based services to bring unique value to dairy farmers, dealers, partners, and its own organisation. We are on an exciting journey of connecting farms, robots and cows to the cloud. Through data collection in combination with AI/ML, we are creating new and innovative solutions helping the dairy farmers all around the world.
Purpose of role and key responsibilities
As a Data Steward at DeLaval Digital Services, you will play a pivotal role in the Data Platform team, ensuring the integrity, quality, and accessibility of data across the organization. You will act as a guardian of data assets, fostering trust in data by implementing and upholding robust data governance practices. Your work will support the transition from a centralized to a decentralized (data mesh) operating model, enabling product teams to onboard high-quality, well-governed data in our modern data platform for innovation and decision-making. By collaborating with stakeholders, you will ensure data is accurate, consistent, and aligned with business objectives.
What you'll do as a Data Steward:
- Responsible for overseeing a quality, integrity, and security of datasets
- Guiding domains to onboard their datasets in catalogue according to the modern data platform standards
- Act as a bridge between the technical and business when it comes to internal and external data sharing
- Implement and guiding (and sometimes creating) policies, procedures, and standards in data governance (e.g. data quality, access management, contracts)
- Making sure we have interoperability across datasets (Data architecture principles are followed)
- Monitor and audit the reliability of the data during the domain onboarding process
- Ensure that datasets used for data&AI products (BI, ML algorithms,...) are correct, relevant, and properly handled
- Act as a key enabler, in data model creation and guide owners in documentation of their assets
- Educate and upskill data domains about data policies, quality issues, and governance practices
- Holds responsibility for confirming/verifying the DoD in data management practices in the modern data platform
- Constant audit of new datasets in the catalogue to make sure they are compliant and secured
- Supports Data Platform team Product Data Analysts and Product Owners
Required qualifications and experience:
To be successful in this role we see that you have:
- Proven track record and more than 3 years of experience in a similar role
- Strong understanding of data governance principles, data quality frameworks, and metadata management, access control....
- Good understanding of data mesh concepts or decentralized data architectures
- Knowledge of data regulations (GDPR, Data Act, CCPA,...)
- Metric-oriented to measure the success of the data management
- Decent cross-functional communications skills, act as the "Data management Champion"
- Familiarity with Databricks and/or AWS
- Strong problem-solving skills with a proactive approach to identifying and addressing data-related challenges in a dynamic environment
- Productivity tools expert (e.g. Jira, Miro, Confluence...)
- Experience working agile set ups (Scrum, Kanban)
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to collaborate with technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Bachelors or Masters degree in Computer Science, Engineering, IT, and Business Administration
