About Volvo Buses and the Global Bus Technology Team

Volvo Buses is a global leader in sustainable people transport solutions. By joining the Global Bus Technology Team, you'll become part of a newly established, central analytics function dedicated to building a next-generation data and model framework. Our vision is to create an Integrated Bus Analytics Framework-a universe of interconnected models and data assets that describe every aspect of the bus, accessible to all and fueling the development of future generations of buses.

Your Mission

As a Data Scientist in this innovative central team, you will play a foundational role in building and evolving the Integrated Bus Analytics Framework from the ground up. You'll support the Global Bus Technology Organization, by connecting data and insights from project office and product development to service market technology and customer quality experience. Your work will ensure that models are reliable, interpretable, and accessible for all relevant stakeholders, and you'll design them to be modular and scalable so they can be built upon and interconnected.

Collaboration is key in this role. You'll work closely with Volvo Group teams to hand over pilot models and support the development of user-facing interfaces, making sure data-driven insights reach end users across the organization. By driving a closed-loop approach, you'll embed lessons learned throughout the bus's lifetime, continuously improving products, services, and customer experience. Your contributions will help grow a universe of bus knowledge that accelerates the development of next-generation buses.

Key Responsibilities

In this role, you will develop and operationalize pilot models, ensuring they are robust, interpretable, and maintainable. You'll partner with interface teams to integrate models into user-facing tools and platforms, facilitating seamless adoption and maximum business impact. Maintaining and documenting models will be part of your daily work, ensuring they remain relevant and effective as the framework evolves. You'll also facilitate knowledge sharing and model accessibility within the Global Bus Technology Team, supporting a culture of continuous improvement and innovation. By connecting data and insights across all phases of the bus lifecycle, you'll ensure feedback and lessons learned are systematically captured and used to drive future improvements.

Qualifications

We're looking for a passionate team player with a collaborative mindset and a drive to make a difference. If you fulfill most of the qualifications below, we encourage you to apply-even if you don't meet every single requirement.

You bring a Master's or PhD degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, and have experience in a Data Scientist role. You're skilled in developing, operationalizing, maintaining, and interpreting advanced data analytics models, and you have strong programming abilities in Python, PySpark, and SQL. Experience with cloud platforms and data engineering tools such as Azure and Databricks is important, as is a clear understanding of the machine learning lifecycle from development to post-release.

Additional qualifications that will help you succeed include:

• Proven experience with shipping ML models to production, including MLOps, CI/CD, Docker, and Kubernetes.

• Familiarity with tools and libraries such as PyTorch, spaCy, Joblib, PyDantic, Transformers, Vector Stores, and RAG.

• Grounded knowledge of model monitoring tools (MLFlow) and metrics (runtime/drift).

• Excellent communication and collaboration skills, especially in cross-functional and cross-organizational settings.

• Experience in the automotive or transport sector is an advantage.

What We Offer

At Volvo Buses, you'll have the opportunity to shape the future of sustainable transport and data-driven innovation. You'll be part of a newly established, central team with a unique mandate to serve the entire Global Bus Technology organization, working in a dynamic, collaborative, and visionary environment. You'll have access to advanced technology and the chance to build the Integrated Bus Analytics Framework, all while growing professionally in a global organization.
