Om jobbet

Auctionet is a marketplace where auction houses from Sweden, Great Britain, Finland, Spain, Germany, and Denmark sell furniture, art, design objects, collectibles, and much more. We are now looking for aData Engineer who enjoys working close to bothinfrastructure and analytics teams, and who wants to help build a powerful, reliable data platform at Auctionet.

This will be thefirst dedicated Data Engineerat Auctionet, giving you real influence over how our data platform is built, operated, and used.

About the Role

We offer a role for someone who likes to understand the full data stack - from how data is stored and processed, to how it is modeled and used by analysts and the business. You will work closely with our Data & Analytics Lead and play a key role in shaping how data engineering is done at Auctionet.

Your responsibilities will include:
  • Designing and maintaining data ingestion from internal and external sources
  • Building and operating reliable ELT pipelines end-to-end (from raw data to trusted datasets)
  • Developing and owning analytical data models using dbt
  • Operating and improving our self-hosted data platform on Kubernetes
  • Working with performance, cost efficiency, and scalability at the platform level
  • Ensuring high data quality through testing, monitoring, and documentation
  • Acting as a bridge between infrastructure, analytics, and product teams

This role is based inStockholm, with the possibility to workpartly remote.

About the Team

You will report to and work closely with our Data & Analytics Lead. Together, you will form the core of Auctionet's data function, combining strong analytical understanding with solid engineering foundations.

You will also collaborate closely with our DevOps and product engineering teams, especially around platform decisions and performance.

Auctionet has around 170 employees and is the parent company of a wider group with approximately 400 colleagues across multiple countries. Our main office is near Östermalmstorg in central Stockholm, with logistics centers in Malmö, Stockholm, Gothenburg, Westbury, and Cologne.

Our Data Platform (Why This Role Is Different)

For compliance, cost, and performance reasons, we run most of our analytics workloads in aself-hosted Kubernetes cluster, built together with our DevOps team.

Current stack includes:Kubernetes, PostgreSQL, Dagster, dbt, Python, and Metabase. You'll also help shape our tooling going forward.

This means:
  • We are not constrained by traditional cloud pricing models
  • We have access to large compute resources when needed
  • We can tune performance deeply - from queries to storage

At the same time, this setup is more hands-on and less standardized than managed cloud solutions. We're looking for someone who finds thisinteresting rather than scary- someone who wants to understand how things work under the hood and isn't afraid of a bit of complexity.

About You

You're either:
  • an infra-curious data engineer who enjoys databases, performance, and platform topics and wants to work closer to analytics, or
  • an analyst-curious engineer who cares deeply about data models, business logic, and usability, but also wants to understand the infrastructure that powers it all.

To succeed in this role, we think you have:
  • Previous experience as a Data Engineer (or similar role)
  • Strong SQL and Python skills
  • Hands-on experience with dbt
  • Experience building and maintaining analytical data warehouses
  • A good understanding of data modeling, testing, and data quality
  • Interest in infrastructure, performance, and operating data systems

Bonus and not mandatory:
  • Background as a database engineer, or deep knowledge of databases like PostgreSQL
  • Understanding of query planning, indexing, and database internals
  • Experience working with Kubernetes or self-hosted data platforms
  • Experience with orchestration tools such as Dagster or Airflow
  • Experience working closely with analysts or BI teams

Our Recruitment Process

We have a straightforward process without unpleasant surprises.

We'll start with a short phone interview to get a sense of whether we could be a good match for each other.

Then we'll have a few meetings (usually two or three) where we talk about you, the role, and Auctionet - and you'll get the chance to meet the people you'll work closely with. As part of the process, we'll also ask you to do a small take-home exercise (2-3 hours). In the end, we hope it feels like the perfect fit for both of us.

Apply By

We will be reviewing applications continuously, but please submit your application no later thanFeb 22nd.

With this acquisition, Auctionet owns and operates both the oldest auction house in the world (1674) and the second oldest (1681), which means we have been working with sustainability for 350(!) years.
