Om jobbet
Boliden is a high-tech metals company with its own mines and smelters that works long-term to guarantee society's access to base and precious metals. For a century, our work has been part of the value chains that have shaped modern society. At Boliden, we know that the metals we mine and make available will continue to play a crucial role in the future - what matters is how we produce them. Become a part of us and drive change for generations to come.Do you want to build modern data solutions that directly support exploration and geological decision-making? As a Data Engineer within Exploration, you will play a key role in developing our in-house data platform. From robust, traceable relational databases to application-driven workflows and future data architecture where AI can be applied. In this role, you combine technical depth with close collaboration with geologists and specialists in a setting that values long-term thinking, curiosity and continuous learning.
Your opportunity
In this position, you will develop, operate and optimize scalable data pipelines and databases that support exploration activities. You will work closely with geologists and the geodata team to ensure that data is accessible, accurate and well-structured and that our systems evolve in line with the needs of the business. You will be a key contributor in our shift away from Excel-based workflows toward modern, database-driven and application-oriented solutions within the Microsoft environment.
Who you will work with
You will be part of a skilled exploration team based in Boliden, collaborating closely with geologists, the geodata group, IT/development, and business analysts. The team is characterized by an inclusive culture, strong values and a long-term focus on building in-house expertise.
Primary workplace is Boliden. Alternative placement in Aitik or Garpenberg may be considered, however, this will require more travel as the colleagues you will collaborate most closely with are primarily based in Boliden.
What you will do
- Develop, operate and optimize ETL/ELT pipelines for data collection, storage, modelling and analysis.
- Maintain and further develop relational databases in Microsoft Server/SQL Server.
- Translate business, analytics and BI requirements into scalable data architecture and infrastructure.
- Ensure clear data lineage, provenance and documented transformation logic.
- Conduct testing and validation to ensure data accuracy and quality.
- Monitor, troubleshoot and log data workflows to ensure high availability and cost efficiency.
- Build applications on top of databases (eventually web-based interfaces) and support the transition away from Excel-dependent solutions.
- Contribute to development of Power BI reports (meriting, not required).
- Take part in shaping modern data architecture and exploring how AI/ML can be applied to exploration data.
- Work closely with geologists to adapt systems and data structures to operational needs.
What you bring
You are curious, analytical and solutions-oriented. You enjoy collaborating with the business, are eager to understand complex domains, and can translate needs into robust, documented and scalable data solutions. You work in a structured way, take responsibility for quality and availability, and communicate clearly in cross-functional settings.
We are looking for someone with:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in IT, engineering or a similar field.
- Experience with relational databases, preferably Microsoft SQL Server, including optimization and operations.
- Experience designing, building and maintaining ETL/ELT pipelines and data models.
- Ability to develop applications on top of databases, ideally with steps toward web-based solutions.
- Understanding of monitoring, logging, error handling and documentation in data environments.
- Excellent command of English, spoken and written.
- Swedish language skills, or willingness to learn Swedish.
- Valid B driving license
Meriting:
- Experience with Power BI and reporting.
- Interest or experience in applying AI/ML to structured data.
- Background in geology, exploration, mining or other scientific/technical domains.
- Experience with data governance, data lineage and modern data architecture.
