We are seeking an experienced Backend Automation Tester to support one of our key clients in Stockholm. This role is ideal for someone who excels in API testing, backend validation, and building robust automation frameworks for microservices-based systems.

Role Overview

You will be responsible for designing and implementing automated tests for backend services, APIs, and data pipelines. The role requires strong technical depth, analytical skills, and the ability to collaborate with backend engineering, QA, DevOps, and product teams.

Key Responsibilities

Develop, maintain, and execute automated test suites for backend services and REST/GraphQL APIs.

Build and enhance automation frameworks to support scalable testing.

Verify service integrations, data flows, and business logic across distributed systems.

Work closely with backend developers to ensure testability, code quality, and stable releases.

Create detailed test plans, scenarios, and regression suites for backend components.

Perform API contract testing and validate system-to-system interactions.

Identify, document, and track defects while working with teams to ensure timely resolution.

Integrate automated tests into CI/CD pipelines to support continuous delivery.

Contribute to performance, security, and reliability testing when needed.

Technical Requirements

Must-have skills (5-6 years):

Strong experience with backend test automation.

Hands-on experience with API test automation tools such as:

REST Assured (preferred)

Postman/Newman

SuperTest, Karate, or similar.

Strong scripting/coding skills in Java, Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, or similar.

Deep understanding of REST APIs, HTTP protocols, JSON, authentication flows (OAuth, JWT).

Knowledge of microservices architecture and distributed systems behavior.

Experience with CI/CD tools (GitHub Actions, GitLab, Azure DevOps, Jenkins, etc.).

Strong experience with Git or similar version control systems.

Experience with Docker and container-based testing environments.

Nice to have:

Experience with contract testing (Pact, Spring Cloud Contract).

Exposure to Kafka, message queues, or event-driven systems.

Basic database validation using SQL or NoSQL stores.

Familiarity with load/performance testing tools (k6, JMeter).

ISTQB certification or similar.
